Off The Rails London

Shopping: most men fall into two camps – hate it or really hate it. Which was why this weekend saw the launch of the inaugural Off The Rails event at the Truman Brewery, Brick Lane in London. This was designed as an all-in-one men’s shopping experience, with grooming, burgers, beers, cocktails and shoe shining thrown in for good measure. It was an excellent idea, although the day that I went along was pretty quiet it deserves to be successful. Primarily as it was an opportunity for some unique small-scale British brands to showcase their wares alongside some more established manufacturers.

Brands on display included Cherchbi bags, which are made using local sustainable wool; Smyth & Gibson, a shirt maker from Derry in Northern Ireland; Pocket Chief, makers of 100% British pocket squares; Realm & Empire, who produce heritage style items based upon original military issue clothing; Edition Scotland, who produce traditional Scottish cashmere and knitwear.

I actually thought that Parka London was a brand with some history, and was astonished that they’d only been up and running for two years. Their coats were superbly styled and of excellent quality – I actually bought one, this rather great Hudson jacket.

British small-scale business is in an incredibly exciting place at the moment. Off The Rails is due to take place every six months – look out for the next one.

Shopping all in one place has to be preferable as it ales it effortless, it needs to be undercover too so as to not get wet. Shopping I have to be in the mood for and christmas is a nightmare. Lucy
